LKS-2020 is being introduced for the maintenance of Riga Municipality’s spatial data
As of 1 October 2026, Latvia will introduce the new Latvian Geodetic Coordinate System LKS-2020, replacing the current LKS-92 system.
With the transition to the new coordinate system, all spatial data of Riga City Municipality will also be acquired and maintained in LKS-2020. The open datasets published on GEO RĪGA will gradually be converted to LKS-2020 to ensure compliance with the new coordinate system and their correct use in the future.
These changes are particularly important for users of geospatial data who obtain, download, process, or use spatial data in their information systems and GIS software. We encourage users to ensure in advance that their software solutions and data-processing workflows support LKS-2020.
More information about LKS-2020 and its implementation is available on the website of the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency: https://www.lgia.gov.lv/lv/lks-2020
