Results
Interest among Riga residents’ associations in independently improving municipal land plots and creating a more attractive environment in their neighbourhoods is growing. Compared to previous calls for applications, this spring saw the highest number of applications from residents’ associations seeking practical support in the form of topsoil, grass seeds, compost and waste containers.
This spring, 40 applications from Riga residents’ associations were approved. In total, 312 cubic metres of topsoil and 43 cubic metres of compost were delivered to residents’ associations to carry out improvement works, along with 183 kg of grass seeds. Waste containers were also provided at seven locations to facilitate the collection of waste from the areas being improved.
The support for residents’ associations was organised and provided by the Riga Neighbourhood Residents’ Centre in cooperation with SIA “Rīgas meži”. The removal of waste collected by residents’ associations was organised with the involvement of the Maintenance Division of the Riga City Municipality’s Department of Outdoor Space and Mobility.
With the support of the municipality, Riga residents’ and neighbourhood associations have successfully implemented various environmental improvements in their neighbourhoods, including restoring lawns and planting beds, creating flower beds and collecting waste.
